This place to place road cycling weekend in England's least populated county is real road cycling classic. Starting in the vibrant city of Newcastle, and following a route similar to the popular Cylone sportive event, it takes in stunning scenery and some fantastic riding.
The quiet roads and lanes of historic Northumberland offer some of the finest riding in the country. Traffic free rolling roads, spectacular views, a landscape steeped in history, spiced up with some challenging climbs and descents, make for a truly memorable trip.
Heading north the landscape changes from rich agricultural land to wilder, higher, open country - the land of the Border Reivers. Riding past the enigmatic Simonside Hills, steeped in ancient folk lore, along the Coquet Valley, and the southern edge of the Cheviot Hills, the first day finishes at the historic village of Otterburn.
The next day takes in more varied landscapes as the route heads towards Hadrian's Wall, and the famous Ryalls climb, before heading back into Newcastle
This is a perfect road cycling weekend for blowing away the cobwebs and a natural progression for anyone who's enjoyed one of our introductory UK weekends and the perfect refreshing break in a truly picturesque, remote and history laden slice of England, and one which has escaped the wrath of mass tourism.
