The Lake District region of Northern Italy is steeped in cycling history. The Giro D'Italia almost always visits the region and, perhaps even more famously, it is the setting for the Tour of Lombardy; or "the race of the falling leaves", the Autumnal one-day classic which, each year, marks the end of the pro cycling calendar.
Focussing on Lake Como and Lake Lugano, this self-guided tour has been designed to appeal to discerning cyclists who like to combine their riding with the finer things in life such good food, fine wine and good accommodation and stunning scenery. Stating from Cernobbio in Italy, this place to place trip will take you along and over into Switzerland to the shores of Lake Lugano and Lake Como. Highlights of the trip are: riding up to Madonna di Ghisallo, the descent onto Lake Lugano from Pian delle Noci and the lake side ride between Bellagio and Como.
Evenings will be spent in classic Italian style in lakeside towns such as Cernobbio and Bellagio trying the finest of Italian cuisine and wine at restaurants set in idyllic spots.
