Sicily, balancing precariously on the toe of Italy's stilettoheeled boot, is the largest island in the Mediterranean. Throughout history the important strategic position of the island made it much sought-after and over the centuries it has been occupied and governed by everyone from the ancient Greeks, Romans and Arabs to the Normans, French, Spanishand, of course, the Italians. Once desired as a strategic military outpost, Sicily is now equally desirable as a holiday destination and, with its warm climate, beautiful coastline and gently rolling terrain it's a perfect destination for cyclists who don't want to work too hard.

This is a brand new tour, very different from previous Sicilian itineraries; starting and finishing in the island's second city, Catania, the imposing presence of the magnificent Mount Etna, is permanently evident. Our route, mainly on gently undulating
roads through rolling hills, takes us into areas of great archaeological significance. Roman villas, Baroque architecture and beautifully-preserved bustling medieval towns punctuate our rides each day.

The island's natural treasures are equally significant and we're never far from beautiful coastlines, spectacular oak woodlands and nature reserves. Slightly gentler than most of our Classic Road holidays, this is an ideal introductory tour for anyone keen to experience road cycling for the first time. Whilst there is plenty of emphasis on superb riding in beautiful surroundings, including Mt Etna, the quality accommodation, gourmet dining and fine Sicilian wines on offer make this a particularly appealing tour for Skedaddlers who enjoy their creature comforts.
